Caledon’s warm mineral baths are just relaxing enough to open up those stressed out body muscles.

Naturally heated up to 60 degrees, their baths get hotter and hotter as you go up to the source of the heated rocks. Our suggestion would be to start with the “coolest” pool at the bottom so that your body acclimatises before you go upwards.

We saw people trying the pools at 60 degrees and tried it as well, but that requires a different level of tolerance that we just couldn’t manage 😂 Also, if you have a tendency for low blood pressure, be careful of how long you stay in the hotter ones :)

Since the pools get quite heated, the best time to visit is winter so that the baths can warm you right up.

Cost of entry during weekends is 200 per person (for those older than 6). During weekdays, Tuesday to Friday, the costs goes down to R160 for adults and R130 for children aged 6 to 12. Children under 6 can enter without any charges.

The baths are open daily from 09h00-17h00 for day visitors. If you stay at the hotel, the pools are open until 23h00.

This has GOT to be on your bucketlist. Imagine waking up to the views of the Langebaan Lagoon while you sleep on a boat on the water!

The @kraalbaai houseboats have been on our wishlist for aaaages. Who doesn’t want to sleep on boats that are floating on the water with breathtaking views that you will be reminiscing for days? Well, we do! We decided to finally book a night here with a group of friends, and we are in love.

Located in the West Coast National Park, the boats are a “boats ride” away from the shore of the beaches.

You will enter through the normal gate and pay the conservation fee. Once you arrive at the houseboat specific shore, a boat will pick you up and drop you at your boat.

There are different sleeper options based on your group size. You can expect to have rooms inside, a kitchen, a braai area on the outside and a bathroom. The boat does move, but we didn’t feel it too much so even if you are often seasick, you should be fine :)

While staying on the boat, there are a bunch of things to look forward to. The first one is the lagoon itself. It’s so vast and beautiful that it will be crying for you to dip in. The waters aren’t too deep, and you can also take a life jacket and just float in the water.

Secondly, the porch area of the boats is a great sharing space to braai, play games, and enjoy a meal together.

Lastly, the sky is mesmerising, with all its stars sparkling at night. It’s worth every penny! Once you checkout, you can also sunbathe in the relatively quieter beach areas.

The houseboats get booked up quite quickly and we recommend making your reservations early on. Usually, they have a 2 night minimum stay especially on weekends, unless that is not available.

We love visiting towns near Cape Town to take a break from the hustle and bustle of work and living in a major city.

One of our favourite towns to visit is Robertson, a quiet and calm town, that helps you reset again.

We just went back there recently and we stayed at the Sundowner Cottage in the Amanadalia Farm and it was, in a nutshell, a mesmerising stay.

With the backdrop of the Langeberg mountains, the views are absolutely breathtaking.

After a short dirt road drive (accessible to all cars), you will find yourself at a lodge in the middle of greenery and beauty. The accommodation has everything you could want.

You get 3 bedrooms, 4 beds, a kitchen with all the equipment you need, and a lounge area with really comfortable couches.

There's even a gas heater that works amazingly well to heat up the whole place during the colder months. The upstairs room is really roomy and gives you the perfect view of the night sky.

But wait, there is even more! Each cottage comes with an outdoor space that has a fire space, doubling up to keep you warm or braai.

There is also a wood-fired hot tub that is just the dip you need. Aliasgher also jumped in the tub before warming it for a cold plunge, which was exactly what his muscles needed.

The farm has other cool features that make staying here even better.

If you've got a 4x4, you can do a game drive around the property. You'll see various animals roaming the farm when you're driving around, which is really special.

You're basically visiting them in their natural home and they seem pretty comfortable with guests. We spotted a springbok on one of our trips there.

There's also a swimming pool and a relaxing area close to the cottages.

Our host, Jackie, was incredibly kind and prompt in responding to our queries.

The cottages are about R1400 to R1650 per night, depending on when you visit!

This winter, try La Vigna's 3-course meal at one of the most gorgeous hotels in Somerset West.

La Vigna has this awesome 2- or 3-course winter deal going on right now.

They invited us to try their 3-course meal and we loved it. We had the minestrone and the fish cakes for starters, and both looked amazing when they arrived.

If you're a soup person who wants something cozy and warming like Aliasgher does, definitely go for the minestrone. But if you're into great vegetables and enjoy fish, the fish cakes are also really good - Saleha loved them.

For our main courses, we went with the Cape Malay chicken curry and the braised beef short rib pie.

Both dishes were delicious. If we're being honest, the slow-braised pie won by just a tiny bit because we're suckers for good pastry and tender slow-cooked ribs, but it was really close.

We had the crème brûlée and the chocolate brownie for dessert. Both were good, but the savouries were more amazing!

We also discovered halaal-certified wine, which we had no idea was even a thing before this visit. It has this grape juice flavor that really surprised us in a good way.

All the meat options at La Vigna are sourced from halaal butchers.

Voted the best adventure experience in the Cape by KFM, the Ceres Railways company offers one of the best trips to the Elgin Market on their vintage locomotives that have stood the test of time. If you love trains like we do, this one is not an experience to miss.

NB: We did this in winter, and it is likely that summer timings are different.

The journey will take you intricately through the mountains and hills, offering breathtaking views to be cherished. A train ride lasts for an entire day, starting at 07:45. You need to reach there beforehand at about 07:20 to get allocated to your cabin by the train master.

If you have a car, there is dedicated covered parking offered by the Harbour Bridge Hotel. At the time of writing this post, this was entirely free of charge. You may get a ticket but the boom gate is open when you are leaving. Alternatively, you can park in the unshaded parking too.

Want to appreciate the full moon up close while enjoying the most beautiful views in Cape Town?

The Lion’s Head hike during a full moon evening is the one to do!

This popular route starts along Signal Hill Road and you won’t miss it. We recommend checking the full moon dates by doing a simple Google search.

The route always has lots of people, so safety isn’t an issue.

It will take you about 75 mins to climb up and 45 mins to hike down. Make sure you allocate 30 mins to spend up top because the views are out of this world 😍

We suggest starting your climb way before sunset so that you catch the sun as it goes down when you are at the top.

If you've done Lion's Head before, you know it has lots of scrambling and ladders etc so extra time is needed to give way and stuff as well.

We began our descent just before the sun set into the horizon, and at one point, we could see the sun disappearing the full moon up close. It was amazing!

Alternatively, you can enjoy the full transition at the top before heading down.

Since it will be dark when you descend, we suggest taking headlights so that the path is visible. You can use a phone torch but it may not be the most comfortable :)

We also saw plenty of people coming down with us so we were able to share the light 🤩

An AFFORDABLE buffet meal that will leave you satisfied for the entire day! 🤩

Mykonos recently invited us to try their buffet lunch on Sunday, and we are already craving another round.

I mean, firstly, we love buffets. What is not to love? Unlimited food options, unlimited rounds and all three courses that truly leave your stomach happy.

And then there is the Mykonos iteration of the buffet that takes you straight to Greece for an authentic experience. Salad that is so fresh that you will be asking for more rounds. Flavoured rice, slow-cooked beef, chicken, fish, chips, and so many more options that are meant to cater for different food preferences.

To top it all off, there is dessert for the day that hits the spot perfectly. Sunday being a popular day for family outings, the place was as busy as a beehive, and we totally understand why; who doesn’t want such great food?

Mykonos is halaal-friendly, so no pork options will be found in their buffet menu, and their meat is sourced from a halaal butcher. They also have vegan options on the buffet.

The buffet costs R235pp for adults and R118 for children under 12 years, and is available every Sunday, 12h00-14h30. The buffet special is only offered during the winter months and ends on 31 October so we suggest rushing there now now!
