We have a little secret to share: we often reward ourselves with a good breakfast in Cape Town after a hike. Because honestly, a delicious meal feels like the perfect way to celebrate the effort (and the climb 😅).

After our recent hike up Elephant’s Eye Cave, we were looking for a cosy breakfast spot nearby in Constantia, Cape Town, and ended up discovering Lime Tree Café. (On a separate note, if you enjoyed the Elephant’s Eye hike, you might also like our guide to the Woodstock Cave hike.

We had seen a few rave reviews online, but let’s be honest, sometimes the hype doesn’t match the real experience. This time though, we were pleasantly surprised.

What we ordered for breakfast in Cape Town

We arrived hungry (as you do after a hike) and decided to try two of the breakfast options.

The shakshuka had a rich, well-balanced tomato base with deep flavour that made it really satisfying without feeling too heavy.

The frittata was a wholesome three-egg omelette served with potatoes and roasted tomatoes; simple, hearty, and exactly what you want after a morning outdoors.

For drinks, we ordered the mango frappe, which was refreshing, light and not overly sweet, and hot chocolate, classic, cosy, and always a safe choice.

Breakfast is served until 11:30 AM, which makes it an easy stop after a morning hike in the area. The portions were generous, the food was comforting, and the service was warm from the moment we walked in.

Why we’ll definitely come back

  • Friendly and welcoming staff
  • Cosy neighbourhood atmosphere
  • Great value for money
  • And a cake counter that looks like it deserves its own visit next time

📍 Location: Constantia, Cape Town💸

Price range: Medium (around R150 per person, including drinks and tip)

Breakfast served until: 11:30 AM⭐

Must try: Frittata or shakshuka with a mango frappe

If you’re exploring Constantia or finishing a hike nearby, this is a great little café to end your morning on a high note. And if you’ve been before, tell us your go-to order. We’re always looking for new recommendations.

This review is based on our personal visit to Lime Tree Café after hiking Elephant’s Eye in Constantia.
