Hillcrest Stellenbosch: While adulting can generally be hard, we have found that it comes with one of the biggest perks of learning about what you like and dislike. In some cases, you come to learn about something you love but hadn’t ever thought about or experienced.
Hillcrest Stellenbosch
For Aliasgher, one of those things has been scones. Soft, buttery, flaky, with a hard texture on the outside with a soft feeling on the inside. What is there not to love. And so when our family friends suggested that we try Hillcrest Berry Orchards scones, we decided to make a road trip and drive all the way to Stellies to see what this is all about. Want to watch? With a beautiful mountain view in the background, their cafe is so well located as you can immerse yourself in enjoying the food while admiring nature. With every scone, you get a choice of a dozen or so jam flavours, so we decided to order Blueberry and Fig/Sweet Lemon. The cream was so well made, we made two options, one with jam and cream and the other with cheese, jam and cream. And guys, we were completely blown away. By far these were the best scones we have tried and I think they have just spoiled us for our entire life. If scones had a bar, this was the bar to measure its performance in your mouth and for your heart. And for just R74, you get two home baked scones with butter, cream or 2 jam choices.
The scones can be paired with many drink options, our choice was to have it with Honeybush tea, which provides the right partner for the absolutely scrumptious scones. Its gentle, earthy sweetness complemented the buttery richness of the scones beautifully, rounding off what was already an unforgettable experience. Its also not to sweet to become too overpowering and curtail the taste of the scones.
If you ever find yourself in Stellenbosch with a love for baked treats, or even if you think you’re not a scone person, make the trip to Hillcrest Berry Orchards. You might just discover, as Aliasgher did, that you’ve been missing out all along.
