Banhoek Chili Oil tasting Stellenbosch

I can’t remember how I came across this, but it must have been through one of my deep dives, and I love tastings of any kind. Plus, I was quite curious about this. I’d never had chili oil before but I knew I love spice and use oil all the time, PLUS, this was a free activity! So really, there was no reason not to try this out.

The Banhoek Chili Oil Company is based in Stellenbosch, and you may have seen their gorgeous bottles in supermarket shelves. The last time we did a bit of a getaway staycation in Stellenbosch, we decided to finally go and visit them for a chili oil tasting. Me, being the planner I am, contacted them beforehand to book but they said that there’s no need to book.

So off we went. The place is quite nice and airy, lots of parking and this huge throne like chair as soon as you enter. Aliasgher had a lot of fun sitting there and goofing around haha. Once you enter, you’ll see a table near the shelves with all the chili products that has pieces of bread and six varieties of Banhoek Chili Oil. There are little bowls and you can get straight to tasting.

Depending on what level of spice you’re okay with, you may not want to try them all haha. I loved the two highest spicy ones, and you even have the option to buy them if you’d like.

We also spent some time browsing their other offerings, as they stock a bunch of other chili based products. We got a yummy mango based chili and more recently, Calistos relish!

They’ve also got a gorgeous outdoor area and cafe where you can sit and have a meal or some coffee, especially on a warm day.
