Alpaca Loom: Visiting the Alpaca Farm Near Cape Town

The Alpaca Loom is home to various animals, but primarily the alpacas who are known for providing some of the softest wool through the annual shearing they go through.

Off the main road, you will enter the farm and arrive at the farm shop where you can purchase tickets for your tours and also buy several handmade items like scarves etc. The farm offers various tours that include walking with the alpaca, the barn tour and the feeding tour. We tried the feeding tour that costs ZAR 70, but would recommend any of the others as you will get to know more about the friendly and adorable alpacas.

You can get a packet of seeds that you can feed the alpacas with. We were both slightly nervous to feed them but it doesn’t hurt at all, and actually tickles 😂 The key is to spill the seeds onto your hand and then put that hand forward for the alpaca to eat it eagerly off your hand.

There is also a cafe at the farm shop that offers coffee, drinks and meals ☕ And guess what? You can adopt an alpaca for a whole year if you are keen to have them! Would you? 🦙🦙 And it’s only R20 to feed them!
