One of the hikes that always eluded us has been Woodstock Cave. We’ve taken some dodgy routes ๐Ÿ˜‚ This time, it was a perfect hike, yay!

๐—›๐—ถ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜: In this post we will tell you about how to climb up through Rhodes Memorial. You will start your hike at the Memorial, climbing up the stairs next to the entrance sign at the parking lot. You will need to climb these for about 30-40 mins until you will reach a point where there are no more stairs and here you will take a right.

๐–๐ก๐ข๐œ๐ก ๐ฐ๐š๐ฒ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ ๐จ? Continue walking ahead on a fairly flat path until you reach a small green turnstile. Keep on a straight path from this point until you reach the Kingโ€™s Blockhouse.

๐“๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐œ๐š๐ฏ๐ž: From here on end, you will continue along the path that goes behind the Kingโ€™s blockhouse.

๐–๐š๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ! โš ๏ธโš ๏ธโš ๏ธ You will see a huge cylindrical tank made of stone on your left but do not take any detour and continue along the path. We often struggle here – we have taken some dodgy turns; Google, for instance, takes you along this path. Instead, skip the tank which will be going left and continue going straight until you reach a green point where you will see signage directing you to the cave (you will see this in our video).

๐…๐ข๐ญ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ: This hike might be slightly tough one as it requires some climbing in the first hour for those on the moderate fitness level. But we have to say, it is totally worth it! The views from this massive cave are scenic, giving you a beautiful panoramic view of the City. The route is also beautiful all the way, as you get exposed to the views along the Rhodes Memorial hike. You can also take a self guided tour of the blockhouse, taking pictures where the canon is located. To top it off, you are exposed to a wide variety of fauna.

๐’๐ญ๐š๐ซ๐ญ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ญ ๐š๐œ๐œ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ: You can access Rhodes Memorial by driving about 10 mins from Cape Town city centre. Once you arrive, you will need to drive through the gates to the Memorial statue where there is plenty of parking. The start of the hike is well marked and is on the opposite end of where the statue is located.

Happy Hiking ๐Ÿ™‚
