Sandton Airbnb: Don’t make the mistake of thinking that a hotel is your only option when visiting Johannesburg! Want to watch instead? Click here.
Joburg is such an exciting, bustling city, but I think people often have this misconception that it’s primarily a business destination. And don’t get us wrong, it definitely is, but there’s a whole other side of Johannesburg to enjoy, especially when you pick the right place to stay!
On previous trips, we’ve made the mistake of booking hotel rooms that made us feel like we were there for a corporate trip rather than a holiday. So, this time around, we decided to try something different and booked a lovely Airbnb in Morningside, Sandton, for R1,165 per night.
Our Sandton Airbnb in Morningside
One of the things we loved most about this Sandton Airbnb was how homey it felt. It was a beautiful space with a large living room, a lovely outdoor area with a swing, and plenty of room to relax after a day of exploring Johannesburg.
It was such a nice change from being confined to a hotel room, especially since we wanted to enjoy Joburg at our own pace rather than feel like we were constantly coming and going.
And one of the best features was the backup power for load shedding!
If you’ve spent time in South Africa, you’ll know how useful that can be, particularly when you’re travelling and don’t want your plans interrupted by power outages.

A few things that made our stay even better
We also absolutely loved having a Google Home device in the Airbnb. There was something so entertaining about giving it commands and asking it to help with all sorts of miscellaneous tasks. 😋
Another advantage was having access to various kitchen appliances, which made it really easy to prepare breakfast or eat at home when we didn’t feel like going out.
We enjoy trying restaurants when we travel, but sometimes you just want to make yourself something simple, especially in the mornings. Having that option was a definite plus!
Was the location convenient?
The Sandton Airbnb was located in Morningside, Sandton, close to a shopping mall and several places we wanted to visit.
We found that many of the spots on our itinerary were within approximately 15 minutes’ driving distance, which made getting around quite convenient.
Of course, Johannesburg is a large city, and travel times depend on traffic and where you’re going, so we’d recommend checking the distances to the places you want to visit before booking.
Was our Sandton Airbnb worth the price?
Here’s a quick breakdown of our stay:
- Location: Morningside, Sandton, Johannesburg
- Price: R1,165 per night at the time of our booking
- Value for money: 9/10
- Our favourite features: Spacious living room, outdoor area with a swing, backup power, Google Home and kitchen appliances
- Best for: Travellers looking for a comfortable, homey base while exploring Johannesburg
For R1,165 per night, we thought this Airbnb offered excellent value for money, especially considering the amount of space and the amenities included.
Would we recommend it? Absolutely! If you’d like to, you can book it here.
If you’re planning a trip to Johannesburg and want somewhere that feels a little more like home, we’d definitely recommend considering an Airbnb or self-catering apartment in Sandton.
Hotels certainly have their advantages, but for this particular trip, having our own living space, kitchen facilities and somewhere comfortable to unwind made such a difference.
Our value-for-money rating: 9/10!
Please note that accommodation prices and amenities can change, so we’d recommend checking the current listing details before booking.
