The perfect rainy day activities Cape Town. We are not naturally gifted painters, but that has never stopped us from enjoying it. There is something incredibly therapeutic about putting paint to canvas, switching off from daily life, and allowing yourself to create without worrying about the outcome. The challenge is that many painting experiences are built around alcohol, which does not appeal to everyone. Some are also not particularly family-friendly. That is what made our experience with Paint and Pretzels stand out. We recently joined one of their painting sessions and left already planning a return visit.

As the name suggests, the experience combines painting with freshly baked pretzels. Upon arrival, each participant receives a canvas, water paints, brushes, an apron, and of course, pretzels to enjoy while painting.

Our instructor, Gabby, immediately created a welcoming atmosphere. She guided everyone through the process, encouraged creativity, and made the session feel approachable for complete beginners.

If you have never painted before, there is no reason to feel intimidated. The class is easy to follow and embraces the idea that the experience matters more than creating a masterpiece.

One of our favourite moments was learning how to mix primary colours to create entirely new shades. It felt surprisingly satisfying and reminded us why creative activities can be so enjoyable.

The experience works particularly well as a date idea, an outing with friends, or even a solo activity if you are looking to try something different.

It is also reasonably priced. For R495 per person, the experience includes all painting materials as well as a meal. There is also a R395 option for those who would prefer to skip the meal.

Another feature we enjoyed is that Paint and Pretzels hosts events at different venues. This means each session gives you an opportunity to discover a new restaurant or cuisine while enjoying the painting experience.

If you have dietary requirements or allergies, be sure to let the team know beforehand so they can accommodate your meal preferences.

Beyond public events, Paint and Pretzels also offers experiences for private functions and team-building events. After attending a session ourselves, we can see why organisations would use it as a way to help people connect and break the ice.

Whether you are looking for a unique date idea, a rainy-day activity, or simply a chance to slow down and do something creative, Paint and Pretzels offers a refreshing alternative to the usual weekend plans.
