Our third @africamps experience was at the Africamps Hex Valley Karoo 1, and was one of the best we have ever had, and we definitely recommend trying it 😍 The Hex Valley Africamps at Karoo 1 is located at the Hex River Valley – a place known as the gateway between the Cape and the Great Karoo.

Africamps Hex Valley Karoo 1

Located beyond the Matroosberg Catchment area, it’s a secluded area where you will find nothing but tranquillity. See what you’d be getting here. The general structure and design of the luxury camps are the same as others, where you have beds to sleep in for 4 people, a braai area, a fully equipped kitchen, and a bathroom.

But it’s the facilities outside of your camp that are just spectacular to say the least. There is a rockpool within walking distance of the camps – which is an absolute joy to swim in. At the check-in offices, you will find a restaurant, a boma and a kids playing area too. This also serves as a tuck shop too where you can buy ice-creams, charcoal, wood or anything else you need for a braai.

Our most memorable experience was the beautiful view of the stars at night. Due to the Hex Valley location, you are surrounded by mountains and an absolutely clear sky that is free from the general pollution in our cities.

The result is this gorgeous view of the sky with all the stars shining at their very best and something no picture we took could give justice to. We were mesmerised at the sheer beauty of what we witnessed and if there is one reason you visit this Africamps, its the stargazing experience.

The cherry on top is that the drive is so beautiful – we hardly get a chance to go that far out on the N1 and the scenery is outstanding. The drive is by far one of the best car trips we have had in SA.
