Trust us, this one’s a hit. Literally. Watch here instead.

We’re always on the lookout for unique date night ideas, and this one had us hooked from the first (very off-target) throw. If you’re looking for a fun, active, slightly competitive date idea or group activity, then axe throwing should be high on your list. It’s got energy, it’s indoors (great for winter or rainy days), and you don’t need to be strong or sporty to enjoy it.

So… Is Axe Throwing Hard?

Honestly? Not at all. The axes are surprisingly lightweight, and the coaches make it really easy to learn. You’ll start with a quick demo on how to hold the axe, line up your shot, adjust your stance, and then you’re off to test your aim.

Safety note: It’s completely safe. The layout is secure, the space is monitored, and your axe will not roll back and hit you, promise 😂

From “I missed” to “BULLSEYE!”

Let’s be real — our first few throws? Total flops. But a few minutes later, we were landing hits, hitting the bullseye, and even trying out fun variations like:

  • Throwing with our non-dominant hand
  • Stepping farther away
  • Trying a double-handed toss
  • (Okay, we even attempted an upside-down throw. Not our finest moment 😅)

By the end of the session, we were fully in our competitive zone, but still laughing the whole way through.

The Date Night Experience

  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Includes: Guided instruction, warm-up throws, solo time, and mini-competitions
  • Best for:✅ Date nights✅ Birthday outings✅ Team building✅ Something different to do on a weekend

Date Night Idea
The hour flies by. We couldn’t believe it when time was up!

Tips Before You Go

  • Wear closed shoes
  • Take your phone, you’ll want pics and boomerangs
  • Go with someone who won’t judge your early misses 😜
  • You don’t need to be super fit or coordinated. Just come ready to have fun

Axe throwing is the perfect combo of adrenaline, laughter, and a little bit of chaos, which makes it ideal for couples, friends, or even solo adventurers looking to try something fresh in Cape Town.
