Breakfast Salt River: Grind Cafe Is a Hidden Gem Worth Finding

Breakfast Salt River

Breakfast Salt River. Some places are impossible to miss. Others stay hidden until somebody points them out. Grind Cafe falls into the second category. Tucked away in Salt River, this cosy café is easy to drive past if you don’t know it is there. We recently discovered it and quickly understood why it has built a loyal following among locals.

The menu is refreshingly simple. You’ll find breakfasts, soups, snacks, treats, and an extensive range of drinks. It is the kind of place that focuses on doing the basics well rather than overwhelming you with endless options (which is not fun when you’re hungry and just want to eat!)

What we ordered for breakfast Salt River

We decided to try their Deluxe English Breakfast, which comes with two eggs, tomatoes, macon, sausages and mushrooms. At just R95, it offers excellent value for money. More importantly, it delivers on flavour. The portion was generous, the ingredients were well prepared, and it left us completely satisfied.

For drinks, we kept things simple and opted for coffee. While it did the job of getting us started for the day, the café offers a wide selection of drinks that would be worth exploring on a return visit.

What makes Grind Cafe stand out, though, is the atmosphere. The space has been carefully designed to encourage people to stay awhile. Warm lighting, plants and comfortable seating create a welcoming environment that feels relaxed without trying too hard.

There are board games scattered around the café, books available to browse, and plenty of spots where you can settle in with a coffee and spend an hour or two.

In a city filled with cafés competing for attention, Grind Cafe has created something simple but effective. Good food, reasonable prices, and a space that makes you want to linger a little longer. If you’re looking for a breakfast spot in Salt River or a café where you can slow down for a while, Grind Cafe deserves a place on your list.

Since we visited, their team have bumped up their menu with more options. If nothing else entices you, then this is it.
