Caledon Hot Springs South Africa: A Relaxing Full Guide to The Caledon Mineral Baths

If you’re looking for a relaxing escape in the Western Cape, the the Caledon Hot Springs in South Africa are just what you need. The baths are naturally heated to temperatures of up to 60°C, and what’s really interesting is that they get hotter as you move closer to the source of the heated rocks. When we visited, we quickly realised that strategy matters here 😅

Our tip is to start at the coolest pool at the bottom and slowly work your way up. It gives your body time to adjust, and trust us, you’ll need it. We saw (and attempted to be) brave people trying the 60°C pools, but that requires a level of tolerance we simply don’t have 😂

Also, a small but important note from experience: if you’re prone to low blood pressure, take it easy in the hotter pools and don’t stay in too long. When we visited, they also had signs up everywhere about the recommended time you should spend in each pool depending on the temperature.

Because the pools are naturally so warm, winter is actually the best time to visit. There’s something unbeatable about sitting in a steaming hot pool while the air around you is crisp and cold. It just hits different.

Caledon Hot Springs, South Africa Prices (2026)

Here’s what you can expect to pay for a day visit:

• Weekends: R200 per person (ages 6 and up)
• Weekdays (Tuesday to Friday):
  • Adults: R160
  • Children (6–12 years): R130
• Children under 6: Free

Opening Hours

• Day visitors: 09h00 – 17h00 daily
• Hotel guests: Access extended until 23h00

Also, don’t be put off by the colour of the water! It’s just all the minerals that make it different colours.

If you’re planning a longer stay, booking into The Caledon Hotel & Spa gives you extended access to the pools, which honestly might be worth it for a quieter, more relaxed experience in the evening. However, we found it a bit too pricey and opted to stay in a beautiful guesthouse 5 minutes away instead!

Is The Caledon Hot Springs Worth It?

In our opinion, absolutely. Especially if you’re looking for a simple, low-effort way to unwind. It’s not overly fancy, but it delivers exactly what you go there for: warm, mineral-rich water, beautiful surroundings, and a proper chance to switch off.
