We visited Crave Burgers Dar es Salaam during our trip to Tanzania and really enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and, most importantly, how much we got for our money.
The atmosphere at Crave Burgers Dar es Salaam
One of the first things I noticed when we arrived was how lovely the outdoor space was. I love restaurants with lots of greenery, and Crave has plenty of it, along with umbrellas that provide some much-needed shade from the Dar es Salaam heat.
It was quite hot when we visited, although there was a bit of wind, which made sitting outside really pleasant.
The restaurant itself has a casual, container-style setup, which I thought was quite cool. It’s nothing overly fancy, but it’s a comfortable spot to sit, enjoy some food and spend time with friends or family.
What’s on the menu at Crave Burgers Dar es Salaam?
One thing I appreciated about Crave Burgers was how simple the menu was. Sometimes you visit a restaurant and there are so many options that you don’t even know where to begin, but that wasn’t the case here.
As the name suggests, burgers are the main attraction, although they also have fries, loaded fries and drinks.
What we ordered and how much it cost
We ordered quite a bit of food because we wanted to try a few different things. Our order included:
- Buffalo chicken burger
- Smash beef burger
- Peri-peri fries
- Loaded chicken fries
- Two drinks
And the total was tsh 50,000 for everything! That’s approximately R300, although the exchange rate will vary depending on when you visit. Considering how much food we ordered, I thought that was pretty good value.
Crave Burgers Dar es Salaam Buffalo chicken vs smash beef
I absolutely love buffalo chicken, so naturally, that’s what I ordered. The buffalo chicken burger came with coleslaw and crispy chicken. I really enjoyed it, although I personally would’ve preferred the buffalo sauce to be a little spicier.
We also tried the smash beef burger, which was surprisingly good! I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about a single-patty smash burger, but it worked really well. For me, the caramelised onions were what made the burger. They added so much flavour, and I really enjoyed the combination.
Both burgers were good, although if you’re someone who enjoys chicken burgers, I’d definitely recommend giving the buffalo chicken a try.
The fries were a pleasant surprise
We ordered both the regular peri-peri fries and the loaded chicken fries. I particularly enjoyed the peri-peri fries because they weren’t just spicy. They had a slight sweetness to them, which I really liked because I enjoy that sweet and spicy combination.
The loaded chicken fries were also good, especially because of how crispy the chicken was. When ordering, we were asked whether we wanted the sauce poured over the fries or served separately. I went with the sauce on top and chose the peri-peri flavour, which I was very happy with!
Even though loaded fries aren’t usually my favourite thing, I enjoyed these. There were also chilli and other sauces available on the tables, so you could add a little extra spice if you wanted.
What about the drinks?
Crave Burgers Dar es Salaam also serves bubble tea, which I was quite excited about because I love boba! Unfortunately, they had run out when we visited, so we were offered a fresh mango and passion fruit juice instead.
And I’m actually glad we tried it! The mango and passion fruit balanced each other out really nicely, making it such a refreshing drink, especially in the Dar es Salaam heat. I still love boba, but the fresh juice was a really good alternative.
Our verdict: Is Crave Burgers Dar es Salaam worth visiting?
Overall, yes! We enjoyed our visit to Crave Burgers, and I think it’s worth checking out if you’re in Dar es Salaam and looking for a casual burger spot.
The outdoor setting was lovely, the menu was straightforward, and we enjoyed both burgers. The smash beef burger was particularly good because of the caramelised onions, while the buffalo chicken burger would’ve been even better with a little more spice.
I also really enjoyed the peri-peri fries and the fresh juice. And of course, getting two burgers, two portions of fries and two drinks for TSh 50,000 made the experience even better.
If you’re exploring Dar es Salaam and wondering where to eat, Crave Burgers is definitely an option to consider.
