If you’re looking for something fun and a little different to do in Cape Town, why not try ice skating GrandWest? Whether you’re planning a date night, an outing with friends or just want to try something new, it’s a great indoor activity, especially when the weather isn’t cooperating! Watch here.
Located at GrandWest, The Ice Station is one of Cape Town’s best-known ice skating spots, with a large rink where you can skate alongside everyone from complete beginners to experienced skaters. They also have a smaller skating area near the food court for younger visitors.
What to Expect When Ice Skating GrandWest
Getting started is pretty straightforward. You can purchase your tickets at the counter, and when we visited, the entrance fee included skate rentals. Lockers were also available for an additional fee if you wanted somewhere to store your belongings.
One thing worth knowing is that ice skating at GrandWest operates in timed sessions, so you might need to wait a little before getting onto the ice. During our visit, we had about 20-30 minutes to spare before our session started, but we actually enjoyed the wait because we got to watch some incredibly talented skaters training. Seriously, they were so good!
You can also just sit and watch the skating if you’d prefer. When we visited, spectators could watch for free.
Is Ice Skating GrandWest Beginner-Friendly?
Absolutely! And if you’re nervous about falling, don’t worry too much. I promise it feels a lot less scary after the first fall, haha!
It might take a little while to find your balance, but that’s part of the fun. Just take your time, get comfortable on the ice and enjoy the experience.
One slightly unusual tip from personal experience: be careful if you have long nails! I ended up breaking one when I grabbed onto the side of the rink to stop myself from falling. Not quite the souvenir I was hoping to take home 😂
Is Ice Skating GrandWest Worth It?
We definitely think so! It’s a fun way to spend a few hours doing something different, whether you’re looking for a unique date idea in Cape Town or simply want to enjoy an activity with friends or family.
Just remember to check the latest skating session times and ticket prices before heading out, so you can plan your visit without too much waiting around.
