Shayona is one of our favourite spots for Indian food Johannesburg and Cape Town. They provide two main services: offering hot food from their standing menu, while also stocking groceries and frozen food items. Watch here.

Since we have visited multiple times, we have tried multiple food options on their menu. Dosas stand out just for their flaky texture, combined with the sauces that satisfy your craving for a meal at any time of the day. Honestly, dosas just work for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack at any time of the day.
If you love Indian street food, we have found that their Pani Puri and Dahi Puri offer the right zest. Aliasgher likes the Dahi Puri, while Saleha is more of the Pani Puri person. The puri crushing in your mouth and the water spilling inside is just the best!

If you are a fan of paneer and roti, they bring both together in their paneer and chip roll. All of this can be complimented with their karak Indian tea, which is so refreshing.
We also find their pricing comparably more affordable as they run as a charity restaurant. They have a branch in Cape Town that offers takeaway food only. Patrons from before the pandemic will remember that they also served sit-down customers before 2020.
In Johannesburg, though, they have multiple branches offering a much larger selection and are open for sit-down customers as well.
