Hartbeespoort things to do: The Upside Down house has an intriguing enough name that when you see it on a list of things to do near Johannesburg, you’ve got to go see what it’s all about. The funny thing is, though, that it wasn’t on any list! I actually came across it when we were visiting the Harties Cableway and I was trying to locate the dam that we could see from the top.
Hartbeespoort things to do: The Upside Down House. Is it worth the visit?
The irony, though, was that on this particular day when we went to the cableway, blue skies suddenly turned into a huge storm that had us trapped at the top of the cableway for a while. We didn’t know when we’d be able to descend because of the lightening. So we didn’t think we’d be able to maintain our initial plan of going to the Upside down house, but when we finally managed to get down, the skies were clear again and the attraction was only about 20-30 mins from us, and in partially the same direction back to Jozi.
The concept is quite whimsical. It’s essentially, as the name suggests, an upside down house, on the pointy top of the house. Once we reached, it was still quite gloomy and raining and we found out that they’ve actually made a whole museum style experience out of it. This looked cool as compared to what we’d seen on the pictures, which may have been underwhelming.
Apparently, they have picnic facilities at an extra cost of R60 per family and also, all the things inside the house are upside down!
There’s an entrance fee of R120 pp, and seeing as this is most definitely a sunny day activity, we chose not to pay it and turned around, deciding to go back another day. Have you been to the Upside down house?
