Talladega Grill Cape Town Review: For Delicious Brisket

Talladega Grill Cape Town

If you enjoy proper comfort food and generous portions, then Talladega Grill Cape Town needs to be on your radar. Located along the busy Imam Haroon Road in Claremont, this American-style grill house has quietly built a loyal following, and after visiting recently, it’s easy to understand why. Talladega’s menu is massive. Whether you’re craving burgers, brisket, wings, ribs, loaded fries or milkshakes, there’s genuinely something for almost everyone. We recently got to collaborate with them and decided to try a bit of everything across the menu.

What we ordered at Talladega Grill Cape Town:

  • Jalapeño poppers
  • Crumbed mushrooms with spicy mayo
  • Classic smash wagyu burger
  • Brisket, wings and sausage box
  • Nachos
  • Chicken and waffles
  • Loaded fries
  • Chilli dog hotdog
  • Gourmet milkshakes (toffee fudge and Lotus Biscoff)
  • Red velvet cheesecake

It’s quite uncommon to see some of these dishes in Cape Town, to be honest. The chicken and waffles (a delicious combination), for example, is something we’ve only ever had at one other place that closed down a while ago. The brisket, too, is something very few places can do really well.

A few dishes stood out immediately. The brisket box was packed with flavour and easily one of the highlights of the meal. If you can only choose one thing to have, have something with their brisket. The crumbed mushrooms were surprisingly addictive, especially paired with the spicy mayo. Their gourmet milkshakes were rich without being over-the-top sweet, and the red velvet cheesecake was probably one of the better dessert options we’ve had in a while. The smash wagyu burger also deserves a mention. Simple, juicy and well executed.

Beyond the food, Talladega leans heavily into the classic American diner aesthetic. From the decor to the atmosphere inside, the restaurant feels relaxed and casual, and almost transports you to a Western movie.

The interior

One thing we appreciated was the service. While we were there, another customer mentioned that their meal was too spicy for them. The staff replaced it immediately without any fuss, which says a lot about how they approach customer experience.

We also chatted to one of the regulars in the restaurant, who told us he visits often and enjoys the food, although he felt the breads could sometimes be less fresh later in the evenings. We passed the feedback along to the owner, who mentioned that they were already working on improving that.

Overall, Talladega is one of those places that works well whether you’re stopping in for a casual burger, a proper meat-heavy feast with friends, or just dessert and milkshakes. If you’re looking for a grill spot in Claremont that offers variety, generous portions and a laid-back diner atmosphere, Talladega is definitely worth trying.
