The last time we went to Joburg, one of you recommended that we go to Akhalz Johannesburg and compare their AK for 2 to a Cape Town gatsby. We are so glad we took your advice! Watch here.

And don’t come for us… but this was better 😱. Overall too, this might be an unpopular opinion, but we love Joburg food more than Cape Town.

Case in point: the AK for 2 by Akhalz, which will take too long to explain, but it’s basically a better version of a Gatsby. More filling, more taste and just so much messier, just the way a Gatsby should be.

It had steak, polony, chips, salad (without needing to ask for it), atchar, and something else… But it all blended together sooo well!

A slight sidebar: we loved these drinks from LA Cabonada. Both are locally made, and the litchi fizzy drink had a nice zing to it, while the mango juice was so refreshing.

We also got to try their loaded pizza and lasagne. If you are a cheese fan, you will love both of these dishes. Carb loading for a marathon? This is your meal, people.

The loaded pizza is basically loaded with chips and cheese, and so is the lasagne.

We asked the lovely owner to please start a branch in Cape Town, and we will be regular customers.

Akhalz is more of a takeaway spot, and we went to the branch located in Norwood. It’s a nice street to walk on, full of restaurants, but you can see why you should go to Akhalz!
