Cafe 51 Woodstock

Every Eid, we have a tradition of trying somewhere new for breakfast. Last Eid, that tradition took us to Cafe 51 Woodstock, and we left glad that we had chosen it. Watch here.

It was one of those cold, rainy Cape Town mornings where all you want is a warm meal and a comfortable place to sit. Fortunately, Cafe 51 delivered on both.

Since Saleha loves copying Aliasgher (she disputes this claim), we both ended up ordering the full breakfast. We were equally uninspired with our drink choices too, both opting for mochas alongside our meals.

The full breakfast came with sausages, macon, eggs, tomatoes, beans and two slices of sourdough toast. It was filling, flavourful and exactly what we needed to start the day.

The service also stood out. Noticing how cold the weather was, the team switched on the heater to make guests more comfortable, which was a thoughtful touch on a rainy Eid morning.

We particularly liked the layout of the restaurant. There is plenty of seating available, making it suitable for everything from a quick breakfast to larger family gatherings. During our visit, one family was preparing for an Eid lunch celebration, and the Cafe 51 team had created a beautiful setup for them.

While we visited for breakfast, that is only part of the story. Cafe 51 also serves a variety of lunch and main meal options and remains open until 5pm, making it a convenient option whether you are looking for breakfast, coffee or a relaxed afternoon meal.

For us, it was a lovely way to continue our Eid breakfast tradition, and another reminder that some of the best meals are often found in neighbourhood spots that focus on getting the basics right.
