Have you ever had a restaurant that you love for no particular reason at all, but whenever you have it, you just feel so happy? Aliasgher has this feeling whenever he eats at Calistos Johannesburg. It has now become a ritual that whenever he goes to Johannesburg, he must eat at Calistos.

For those of you who haven’t visited Calistos before, they refer to themselves as a Portuguese restaurant that specialises in making juicy prawns, chicken, and steak. It somewhat operates like a Pedros or a Nandos if you are struggling to imagine a place, but honestly, for Aliasgher, it’s incomparable. One of the primary reasons for this is that Calistos just has their own zing and taste, satisfying a deep craving for good, saucy food. Watch what you can eat here!

Calistos Johannesburg

Calistos food is YUM, with all the capitals that emphasise how amazing it is. To start with, we love the sauce they serve with their breads when you sit down. It’s aimed at giving you a good snack, but gosh, it’s just so juicy and spicy, everything we love. They sell the sauce separately and we suggest buying it to have with anything and everything.

For our mains, we love their King Prawns that are deveined. Although the portion is small, it’s our favourite dish as the marinated sauce mets away in your mouth, mixing many flavours all at once. Since chicken appears across their menu, we have also tried that. The sauce is spilled all over, and we enjoy this marination that seeps into the chicken to give it a yummy taste.

We haven’t had a chance to try their steaks yet and other menu items, but since we don’t get to visit often, we always fall back on our safe options that we have loved forever. If you are reading Calistos, this your cue to open a Cape Town Branch, please!

Calistos has many branches across Johannesburg, giving you several choices that you can access and enjoy.
