Mamba Village Nairobi isn’t something you’ll typically find on the lists of things to do in Nairobi, but that’s the advantage of taking our advice 😋 I remember going here as a child and it seems to have grown since then!

In a nutshell, Mamba Village is a reptile park that hosts a bunch of different animals. They’ve got crocodiles, Tortoises, and some other reptiles. It’s actually East Africa’s largest crocodile farm!

We actually tried to go on one afternoon after work, which was a baaad idea. Since it’s located off Langata road and Karen Road, which is very busy, traffic was crazy! We turned around and tried the next day in the morning, and were successful then. The entrance was a bit confusing because the board wasn’t where the entrance/maps location is, but we asked some people and found it.

When you enter, you’ll pay an entrance fee of KES 200–350 for Kenyan residents and roughly $10 (or KES 800–1,000) for non-residents. They do have some East African rates as well, and you have the option to walk through the enclosures with a guide.

The guide isn’t at an additional fee – you can tip whatever you’d like at the end if you’re happy. We were glad we went with him, because we got to ask questions (which we love) and learn more about the reptiles in the village.

He was also brave enough to show us that the crocodiles weren’t asleep 😂 If you’ve ever seen crocs in real life, you’ll know that they look very crusty and almost unalive. Truth is, that’s just them conserving energy. As soon as they smell/see prey, they can leap at insane speeds and clamp the prey with their strong jaws.

So the guide had a stick and cloth that he used to nudge the crocs with, so that we could hear the iconic sound they make when their jaws clamp shut over prey. It was quite something! Also, crocs give me the heebi jeebies haha

But then you can also meet some 100 year old tortoise families, hold them, and learn about them. Once done at the reptile section, we walked around to explore what else was there.

You can hold a tortoise too!

As you walk, you’ll see that there are boards naming different African countries around the river. We took a boat ride, and realised that it was essentially a boat ride around Africa because of the boards! This is at an extra cost.

There are also some ostrich on that side of the park, as well as a play gym. Have you been to Mamba Village?
